Spring 2010 Haute Couture @ A Glance

From a scene out of a haute couture version of Zoro I feel that Jean Paul Gaultier started off couture fashion week with his theme based designs and over and under the top take on inspirational ideas he has come across in the past amount of time.. I never have anything bad to say about Jean Paul Gaultier because i love what he does, but do you ever wonder what one of his shows would be like without a theme? I totally understand that fashion is about visions, dreams, inspirations and fantasies but what about skill? Acknowledged designers like Jean Paul Gaultier have the ability and say in their collection and in the fashion world to maybe put a temporary pause on the theatrics and extremely push their ever so talented fingers down the runway! Not to say that they didn't use their talent for their current shows, but i'm talking practicalities here.

But here, in Armani Prive I almost found myself in a trance, wrapped in the beautiful fabrics and proportions. Beautifully tailored and structured suits and gowns. Practical was very relevant in this collection but there was still a sense of pristine and acknowledgement of couture which made this collection the top of the line for me. What I find myself loving about this collection definitely has to be the ease of it and the wearable-ness of it! I love seeing something I dont have to think about envisioning whom I could see it on. When I can just easily piece together a person and a piece that's when I have a great instinct and feeling. Armani Prive was amazing this season not only for the fact that it was super wearable but also because it had such a unique essence to it..

In a more opposite form, Christian Dior took the runway, or more if anything, the staircase. I would have to say that Christian Dior is pretty much the epitome of couture when it comes to mind.. Come on, the over the top accessories, lavish pieces, embroidery and proportions that would kill are all synonymous with Dior. I always enjoy seeing Dior collections but I feel that I have seen it way to much. In some cases some Christian Dior couture pieces seem to be very repetitive but hey I guess if it's not broke don't fix it, right!!..

One collection i was excited to peep was definitely Givenchy with only 23 pieces in this collection L.O.M.L and designer Riccardo Tisci definitely had to make every piece punch, and that he did! Givenchy's couture collection had great textures, colors and the perfect amount of drama to balance everything out!! Therefore my favorite collection this season for couture definitely had to be... Ok wait, I can't really choose because I get all jelly-bellied when I see them all, so they are all amazing but overall I feel that the designers need to channel their creative energies and spurt them out in different ways for once.

Elie Saab - Haute Couture

Two words that best described this couture show?.. Simply beautiful.. Now those arent usually the words and thoughts that come to mind when someone says couture but Ellie Saab made their presence very relevant and still kept the very essence of couture relevant in this collection.. From the fresh faces and simple hair-do's he used down the runway to the beautiful soft colors and the beautiful embroidery he used on the gowns. For some reason while reviewing this collection A Midnight Summer's Dream came to mind, now, the weirdest part about that is that I have not an idea of what A Midnight Summer's Dream is..

I can't emphasize more how much I love the colors of this collection. They are so pretty, feminine and timeless. I also love the length of the dresses, out of 44 pieces only 8 were short which is great! Another acknowledgement that has to be made is how beautiful the fabric flows.

Although I am really liking this collection I dont feel that it is couture week material. I would love to see this collection available at a lower price point and showing at the normal fashion week. This would of assisted the consumer in attaining a bit of savings. Although I assume these dresses will retail for something more, if anything, way more then 2 (im just guessing people) I would have to say some are worth it but otherwise for the price point and look I would rather go with Marchesa.

STYLE iCON - Kate Lanphear

Why didn't I think of this first! My ultimate style icon of the moment which has been for like a while now is definitely miss Kate Lanphear!! I am in love with everything she wears, from the colors (or in most cases, the lack of colors) to the textures.. Metals and leather to tweeds and comically printed sweaters.. She always looks super edgy and has that hair so amazingly in place.. She is always rocking the hottest duds and has her stacks aligned to a t.. oh and collier de chien.. is another major reason i am obsessed!! She rocks it so well... :)

She Speaks!

This video at an Armani Exchange party was the first time I think that i've ever heard Kate Lanphear talk and no offense because I am obsessed with her but WOAH! She sounds nothing like I expected.

p.s.!!

i have a big obsession with Charice again!! Her voice is pretty much amazing and she sings every song i love to hear so i love her!! Peep this performance of her and two other beautiful Philipina ladies!!

If you dont know who charice is, she is on the right. She has an incredible story! Google her and find out! She has been on Oprah, Ellen, sang with Celine Dion & Andrea Bocelli and has been said to have perfected one of Whitney Houston's songs..

The Champ Is Here > Jean Paul Gaultier - FW2010

Whether it's "HULK MAN" ripped abs, leather suits, cropped jakets, over-sized knit scarves or embroidered sweaters that could keep an igloo warm, my super-favorite Jean Paul Gaultier always knows how to make it POP!! I am in love with some of the pieces of this collection.. I think its almost time to own my first JPG.. I have the cologne if that counts?? haha.. I am in love with how this collection varies.. It varies for its customer, you can have some little edgy fashion thing like me wearing this, then you can have a sophisticated working man in one of the p-trench coats... You can literally have a boxer in those shoes (which i hope he made, because i want a pair!!).. or you could have a wedding in the caped tuxedo blazer!!.. Jean Paul Gaultier.. never dissapoints me!
